Nevada Las Vegas
Located in the western region of the United States of America, Nevada is a beautiful state in Las Vegas. Officially known as the ‘Silver State’, Nevada is popular for the large number of silver deposits that were discovered and mined here. The capital of Nevada is Carson City which is the largest city in Las Vegas.
Nevada is mainly an arid land that lies between California and Utah. Much of the state is within the Great Basin but parts of the northeast drain into the Snake River and the southern portion is within the Mohave Desert and the Colorado River drainage. Nevada thus is largely a desert which entices people with its bizarre visions such as a big blue lake appearing in the midst of a parched landscape or a tree seen inverted over a distance etc. Apart from a legal platform for gambling and even prostitution (in some counties), Nevada offers some excellent tourist spots to be enjoyed by the young as well as the old.
Nevada is divided into five territories each of which has some excellent tourist attractions. The visitors can plan their vacation according to their taste. For example the history buffs and artifact lovers can start with the Reno/Tahoe region which has several world class museums that are ideal reflection of the state’s rich history and civilization.
The Cowboy County area is defined by Nevada’s Humboldt River and presents a diverse and fascinating land rich in legends, lore and customs of the Old West. There is a lot to do in this wide open region that stretches along Interstate 80 from the Utah Border to Reno. The place is famous for the tawny hills bristle with a variety of wildlife.
The Pony Express Territory is one of the most exciting places of Nevada. Situated along the Highway 50, which was the original Pony Express route, this territory is known for its towns of Fernley, Silver Springs, Fallon, Austin, Eureka and Baker that take the visitors to a trip of farming, ranching and mining history of this part of the state. Pony Express Territory’s newest treasure is Great Basin National Park. The park is recently developed in the system and is therefore not quite crowded or over-developed. It has small lovely campgrounds and some nice hiking trails. Not to forget is the wonderful Grimes Point Archaeological Site that you will come across while traveling west on Highway 50. Here you will find trails lined with fascinating petro glyphs and rock drawings which were made by natives who inhabited the area between 5000 B.C and 1500 A.D.
The Pioneer Territory is a popular place which offers several historic yet operative mining towns for sightseeing. The gigantic open air museum here is a big pull for the visitors. There are other attractions such as the Death Valley National Park and the open pit mining operation happening at the Round Mountain Gold. It is said that no other of Nevada’s territories captures the essence and flavor of the Silver State’s colorful “boom and bust” mining history than does this big part of Nevada.
